Tanks with mesh coils
What are mesh coils?
Mesh coils are made up of a strip of metal mesh with holes punched through them. A standard or traditional vaping coil has one or two wires that are twisted into a spring-like shape so they could fit into a small atomizer.
Besides the contrast on how they look, there is also a significant difference in how they function. Traditional atomizer coils have less surface area resulting to less dense clouds when vaping. Mesh coils have an increased surface area, which results in denser and thicker clouds when vaping.
What are mesh coils made of?
Mesh coils are either made up of stainless steel or Kanthal, pressed thinly, with holes punched through it. Hence, then name mesh coil. It is then shaped into a C and is placed in the inner part of the wick with each of the side linking to the base of the atomizer.
What are the advantages of using tanks with mesh coils?
Mesh coil tanks have addressed issues that come with using traditional cloud chasing sub-ohm tanks. Mesh tanks have more surface area without sacrificing mass.
- Flavor and vapor production
The greater surface area of mesh coils results in the denser and thicker vapor produced when vaping. The dense vapor, in turn, results in more intense flavor because there is more area for the e-juice to come in contact with the coil.
This is one of the issues with traditional coils. They have a lesser surface area which results to lesser e-liquid getting in contact with the coils.
- Longer-lasting coils
With the way the mesh is designed, it evenly spreads the heat compared to other coil designs. A traditional wound coil heats up from the middle first, going outwards. The middle part may become too hot and burn the wick. This frequent burn decreases its lifespan.
- Fast ramp-up and cool down
The thin design of the mesh coil allows it to heat up quickly and evenly and also to cool down just as swiftly when you release the fire button. Whereas, a standard twisted coil has more mass and requires more time for it to ramp-up before you can use it.
- Compatibility
While you can completely get a new tank with mesh coil, it is not necessary to do so. You can often find mesh coils that are compatible with existing tanks.
- Power consumption
Because it has a faster ramp-up time, it requires less power for it to reach its optimal performance for vape production.
What are the disadvantages of using tanks with mesh coils?
As with any other device, nothing is ever perfectly made.
- Juice consumption
The denser and thicker vapor produced means that more juice is also consumed. This is one of the drawbacks of using a tank with mesh coil. You have to top up or refill often.
- May not be for mouth-to-lung vapers
Mesh coil tanks are more for users who have no trouble with direct-to-lung inhaling in comparison to mouth-to-lung vaping. The broader space and open airflow in mesh tanks may make it more difficult for those who are used to mouth-to-lung inhaling.
From a variety of tanks available today, mesh tanks offer the best value and performance at any budget.
